Altaf Hussain Hali (1837–1914), known simply as Hali, was a prominent Urdu poet, critic, essayist, and biographer whose work significantly influenced modern Urdu literature. He was among the first writers to introduce realism, reformist thought, and literary criticism into Urdu. His greatest contributions include not only his poetry, like Musaddas-e-Hali, but also his biographical writings, particularly Hayat-e-Javed—the celebrated biography of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. Through these works, Hali not only preserved the lives of great personalities but also documented the cultural and ideological shifts of his time.
