Abstract

Dr. Abu al-Lais Siddiqui rendered great services for the promotion of Urdu language and literature. He is recognized in literary circles as a teacher, researcher, linguist and journalist. He started his teaching career at Aligarh Muslim University. After the partition, he migrated to Pakistan in 1948 and joined Oriental College, Lahore as a senior lecturer. In 1956, he joined Karachi University as an associate professor of Urdu from where he retired in 1976 as the chairman of Urdu Department.  He was the first scholar who obtained doctoral degree in Urdu from Aligarh Muslim University. He contributed to Urdu language with his valuable books as well. The article focuses Dr Siddiqui’s literary services in promotion of Urdu language.
