Novelette is a literary genre originated in Italy back in 14th century. There are various terms used in the literature for novelette such as short novel, novellat, nouvelle, novella and novella etc. it came from English into sub-continental languages including Punjabi. Though the tradition of novel in Punjabi is well established, novelette as a separate genre has yet not been discussed as it should be. The article focuses the Punjabi novelettes written and published in Pakistan from 1947 to 2020.
