The debate of Islamic literature was initiated long before establishment of Pakistan though the term was not applied at that time as vividly as was done right after the emerging of Pakistan as an independent state. This movement was launched in retaliation of communist propaganda mainly against Islam and Pakistan. This reaction appeared on two fronts. On one hand Movement for Islamic Literature was there to resist the conspiracy against Islam and Pakistan, as conceived by them, and on the other hand literary giant like Muhammad Hasan Askari began defending Islam and its social values through his criticism. Askari was of the view that role of Islam stood central in formation of our culture. Askari was given an ear in literary circles. The debate of Islamic Literature in Urdu produced both pro and anti proponents which later turned to be an invaluable assets of critical tradition of Urdu language.
